dissertation

I have started writing my dissertation, with help from my research background and primary research i have been doing for the past few weeks.
I've got to remind myself that i am doing all of this for my dissertation and it is easy to get carried away with the whole double identity.
I'm not sure how i'll feel at the end of it....will i want to continue doing street art or was i doing it just because i had a reason to which was the purpose of this study?
Right now, what i am certain of is that i am not okay with the illegal side of street art. I have pure admiration for artist who have the guts to go out and get there work out there, so i guess if i was to continue along this path, i would certainly do it in a way where no rules where breached.....much.

brick work

I have unused bricks in my driveway since having my paving done 2 years ago. wondering how to get rid of some of them; i wheatpasted my roadsign stickers on to the bricks and just left them lying around places.....i'm not sure if that makes it any more okay, but they can now be removed easily and i'm not neccessarily vandalising public property.

mystery envelopes

I tried to appeal to the curious side of human nature.....

In envelopes marked with a bold question mark on, i stuffed my leaflets and flyers and put these envelopes around city centre where there are crowded areas, hoping to appeal to people who are curious enough to pick the envelope up and look inside.

stickers

You can see this was done in a hurry!
a small "no entry" sign on a lamp post

spotted!

saw one of my road signs and had to take a video, it's not particularly good....

They began road works where my sign was placed, it looked cool for a while, and i felt slightly smug, until a few days later it was no longer there. Either someone stole it or "they" took it away (party poopers) although i was a little annoyed that it was gone, i realised i had acquired it from the streets before and after altering it, i put it back out there on the streets; it was never mine to begin with, so i feel that i'm not allowed the feeling of loss.

Stickin' it to the man!

I left my house during the night to get my stickers out there in the name of art.
Other than being extremely tired, i was nervous and anxious aswell as a hint of excitment.
there was the feeling of just wanting it to get done without being caught and i realised the whole time i was out there, i never felt any relief until i was back at home.

spot the stickers.

(These stickers are now taken down, as i do not endorse the idea of "vandalising" - if that's what you wanna call it)

infusing culture into art

my attempt to infuse culture in to art to make it seem more personal to me and appeal to others on a different level of curiosity.

my artwork

This is a photo i took a few years ago and tried to incorporate road signs into it.

- mundane everyday objects changed into something interesting

road signs
fabric
etc

background

This is where my idea's for using street signs as street art began.

The Great Banksy is an obvious choice to talk about when it comes to street art
easy recognition?
commercial?

The rise and promotion of an artist

My first plan of action is to document this experience as an anonymous street artist. I'm hoping to use the power of the World Wide Web to showcase my work and the process of my attempt of becoming a street artist using sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Wikipedia and of course Blogspot.

Discerning a Dissertation...

I have often wondered how to get some of my art work acknowledged, I don't have a particularly established style. However, by looking at the previous art works I have produced, I found that I tend to use everyday mundane objects and allow the viewer to see them in a different light from a different point of view.
In a module in my 2nd year of uni, I concentrated on looking at road signs and how we see these ordinary signs everyday and how we acknowledge them for their function and not particularly their form. So, I acquired some road signs (legally) and spray painted them and gave them an almost Chris O'filli style makeover. I displayed them in my end of year exhibition which changed their context completely.
So, now that i'm thinking of what to do for my dissertation, I have decided to revisit the road signs idea which leads me to think about street art and how it is a platform to be acknowledged as a credible street artist by taking the road signs back to the streets...literally.
